Winter Defensive Driving Program
The presentation of Winter Hazard Avoidance Tactics (H.A.T) is designed to prepare participants for the challenges of winter driving. Winter H.A.T is designed to help drivers understand the challenges of driving on ice and snow and the driving techniques necessary for safe and crash free driving. Even in winter, the majority of vehicle collisions are preventable by adequately prepared drives - but only if they know how. This 4 hour theory program will provide participants with the specialized knowledge they need to avoid becoming another winter driving statistic.
Items covered during the program include, but are not limited to:
- Winter Driving Conditions - Why are they so bad?
- Available Traction and Limits.
- The Truth about Tires.
- Front and Rear Wheel Drive/All-Wheel Drive and 4 Wheel Drive - What each provides and how best to use them.
- Anti-Lock Braking Systems - How to use this system effectively.
- Driving Techniques to Maintain Control - Braking, Accelerating and Steering.
- Intersections, Curves, Hills, Bridges and Tunnels - The challenges and the answers.
- Why a driver's attitudes and habits are the difference between safe winter driving and loss of control.
Our goal is to ensure each participant understands how and why drivers get into trouble in adverse winter driving conditions, how to anticipate these problems, prevent loss of control and finally how to anticipate and avoid situations arising from another drivers' errors in vehicle control.
Taylor Professional Driving recommends an in-car coaching session available to those who have succesfully completed the Winter H.A.T theory program to apply the techniques learned in real world conditions.
