Introduction to Log Hauling/Lowbedding Driver Program

Students have the option of dividing their training hours between log hauling and lowbedding or focusing all hours in one area.

 

Advanced Work Ready Driving Techniques:

Advanced shifting techniques (mountainous terrain)	Trouble shooting/air system/electrical/mechanical
En-route inspections	Card lock etiquette/safety
Preventative maintenance	How to position and back up single trailer or combination trailers
Scale etiquette	Driving Fully loaded single trailer or combination units
Night Driving	Advanced Hwy. cornering

 

Driving Techniques - Lowbedding and Log Hauling

Truck and trailer configurations (Tandem and Tridrive; Tandem & Tridem/Tridem)

Loading of Logs and Equipment

Basic Machine Operations (Lowbedding only)

Onboard scales (Proper weight distribution for single trailer or combination)

Loading/unloading Techniques/Safety Procedures

Hiway/mill scale etiquete safety procedures

Mill yard etiquette safety procedures

Hiway and off-hiway driving

2-way Radio use and etiquette

Documentation

On-board electronics

Root planning

Department of transporatation Regulations

Driving in extreme weather conditions (Depending on season)

 

EXTRA COSTS TO STUDENT:

There are some extra costs that the student is responsible for and they are as follows:

• Air Endorsement prior to starting the in cab training                           (included)
• Motor Vehicle Branch Air Brake written test                                           $15.00
• Motor Vehicle Branch Class 1 Learners License                                     $15.00
• Road Test Fee                                                                                        $60.00
• Licensing Fee                                                                                         $17.00
• Medical Form Processing Fee                                                                  $28.00
• BC Medical Examination (depending on your doctors fees)     Approx. $130.00

• Coveralls and gloves (required personal protection equipment)

I would especially like to thank Jackson and Rick for their patience and perseverance, in training me out of bad habits I had learned from another driving school when I trained for my Class 3 license.
