CLASS 1 DRIVER TRAINING

Duration: 144 Hours

Course Outline:

  • Classroom review covering the Class 1 learners license.

  • 144 hours Class 1 Driver Training (Highway Truck and/or Simulator Training)

Class 1 MELT course includes practical in-yard training, on-highway driving and theoretical learning components.

There is a focus on National Safety Code compliance for commerical vehicle safety, hours of service requirements, load securement, and other fundamentals like air brakes and professional on-highway driving skills. 

The BC Class 1 MELT course emphasizes safe operating practices for BC's mountainous geography and diverse climate conditions that can occur in other jurisdictions. 

Students need to complete the training in accordance with the schedules set by ICBC. 

Students need to complete the BC Class 1 MELT course within 12 months from the date of enrolment, but it is expected students will complete the course in a much shorter timeframe.

Taylor Professional Driving Ltd. has training instructors who are licensed by ICBC to provide Class 1 driver training and deliver BC's Class 1 MELT course.

Prerequisites

  • Students are responsible for accommodation needs and meals during their training.

  • Students are responsible for travel requirements to and from Taylor's office.

  • Additional truck and/or instructor training will be billed at an hourly rate.

  • A schedule of lessons with the appointed times will be given to each student in advance.

  • 24 hour cancellation notice is required to avoid being charged for missed lessons. 

  • Missed lessons will be billed at an hourly rate.

  • Students are to be at the school or appointed pick up point 15 minutes prior to the lesson. 

  • Students must bring gloves and coveralls to all lessons unless previously discussed with the instructor.

  • Students are responsible for the regular cleaning of coveralls. 

  • At no time are the gloves or coveralls to be worn in the cab of the trucks. 

Additional Requirements

  • Learners License (must obtain before in-cab training)

  • Valid Drivers License (Class 5 or better)

  • Completed Medical Check (prior to or after road test)

  • Drivers Abstract

  • Safety Gear: Coveralls, Gloves, and Safety Glasses
