Instruction:
Students will be instructed on the fundamentals of commercial driving, with hands on training using a truck equipped with an 18-speed transmission. Focus will be spent on pre-and-post inspections, essential maintenance, basic shifting, driver observation, general driving skills and safety.
Our program is 31 hours. Students spend 6 hours in class(theory), and the balance of time on road driving and in yard learning (practical, pre-trip, chain-up), plus a road test with ICBC.
Goals:
• Confidently maintain and complete a logbook and understand hours of service.
• Confidently operate a commercial vehicle in a safe manner
• Enhancing individuals’ employability skills in commercial driving
Requirements:
Required for all:
• Class 3 BC government issued learner’s license.
• Airbrake Endorsement Course and Service BC Knowledge test must be passed.
• Must be minimum 18 years of age and holding a full BC Class 5 license.

Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated on an on-going basis by the Instructor during their Class 3 training
And final testing will be completed during their ICBC road test, by an ICBC Adjudicator.
Examinations:
• Service BC, Airbrake Knowledge Test
• ICBC Class 3 Road Test by an ICBC Adjudicator
Course Cost: $4,500 (plus $350 for airbrakes if student doesn't already have this endorsement)
These fees are payable by the student to ICBC in addition to course costs:

ICBC Learner's License $ 15.00
ICBC Road Test Fees: Class 3 $ 50.00
ICBC Licensing Fee $ 17.00
ICBC Medical Form Processing Fee $ 28.00
BC Medical Examination $ 130.00

Motor Vehicle Branch Air Brake written test $ 15.00
Note: ICBC written Air Brake Test must be written and passed before the road test or within 90 days of completing the Air Brake Endorsement course, whichever comes first. If a student fails the written exam three times, the Air Brake Course must be repeated at students' cost.
What can I use a class 3 license for?
To drive trucks with more than two axles, such as dump trucks and large tow trucks but does not allow driving a bus carrying passengers.
To drive trailers or towed vehicles exceeding 4,600 kg provided the truck and trailers do not have air brakes.
To drive a tow car towing a vehicle of any weight
To drive a mobile truck crane
To drive any vehicle in Class 5
What is the minimum age requirement?
18 for a Class 3 licence or heavy trailer endorsement
Do I need previous experience?
A full-privilege B.C. driver's licence (Class 5 or 6) or an out-of-province equivalent.

with less than four penalty point incidents in the past two years, plus
no driving-related criminal convictions within the past three years.
I have outstanding fines and debts, can I still get my Class 3?
All fines and debts owing to ICBC must be paid.
• Students are responsible for accommodation needs and meals during their training.
• Students are responsible for travel requirements to and from Taylor's office.
• Additional truck and/or instructor training will be billed at an hourly rate.
• A schedule of lessons with the appointed times will be given to each student in advance.
• 24 hour cancellation notice is required to avoid being charged for missed lessons.
• Missed lessons will be billed at an hourly rate.
• Students are to be at the school or appointed pick up point 15 minutes prior to the lesson.
• Students must bring gloves and coveralls to all lessons unless previously discussed with the instructor.
• Students are responsible for the regular cleaning of coveralls.
• At no time are the gloves or coveralls to be worn in the cab of the trucks.
